I’ve created a petition on change.org asking that addiction treatment facilities not be reimbursed unless they provide evidence based treatment and it be mandated they participate in 3rd party studies in order to better establish evidence-based guidelines.

Icu medicine is all evidenced based. Treatment for addiction or anything else should be no different.

The gold standard for opioid use disorder is medicated assisted treatment yet we have accredited and non accredited facilities not providing this treatment. We have facilities forcing patients to wean off before they are ready. Why? Well think about it, if patients aren’t relapsing they have no business.

This is just the start in my plans but our voices must be united and we must use them loudly in order to bring change. Write your governors, your local representatives, congress members, SAMHSA…over and over again. Your voice, your story matters. Send me your story to share at collateraldamagesucks@gmail.com I will share them if you do not feel confident doing it yourself. Nothing will change if we just sit back and wait.

I emailed my local congress representative and he responded with a bunch of fluff. I expected nothing else, but if each of us gets these kind of BS responses and share them we can say loudly our government isn’t doing anything to better the system.

My next mission will be to require that every person that works in the industry have a license. Now before you get nervous, I’m not meaning you will have to go back to school! A license to practice holds people accountable and keeps them ethical…usually. If not, you risk your license and not having a career. This will go for interventionists also.
